Survey Types & Service

Pre Purchase Condition & Valuation

image204

The C3 Marine Pre-Purchase Condition & Valuation Survey is the most comprehensive and intensive category of inspection. When purchasing a used or NEW vessel, this is the inspection survey recommended throughout the marine industry.  With this survey, the condition and overall operation of the vessel will be examined.  We will inspect the vessel for everything from structural integrity to its cosmetic appearance; from the on-board systems and overall maintenance to sea trial.  It is generally recommended the vessel be inspected both in the water and hauled-out for an inspection of the wetted surface and underwater machinery.

An assessment of the vessels Market Value will be completed through a process of comparable vessels on the market, actual recent sales of comparable vessels, multiple industry value guides, industry depreciation scales and factoring the vessels present condition.

Remember when we are performing this survey for you, we work only for you, we report only to you and no one else.  We are here to protect your interest.

Insurance Inspection

image205

The request for an “insurance survey” is generally made when your insurance carrier requires a survey of the vessel they insure or if you are applying for insurance.  The insurance company requires a survey to determine the acceptability of the risk and to confirm the valuation of the vessel.  They are interested in the vessels integrity, compliance with marine industry safety standards and its condition as it relates to the vessels market value.

Occasionally we are asked to conduct a survey for the lending institution to satisfy their examiners who are interested in verification of their collateral, its condition and value.

If C3 Marine Services LLC surveys your vessel as a Pre-Purchase Condition and Valuation and you proceed with the purchase, additional copies are made available for you to present to your insurance carrier and/or your financial institution.

C3 Marine Services LLC surveys have always met and exceeded the requirements of the insurance carriers and financial institutions we’ve dealt with.  There fore we guarantee that our Pre-Purchase Condition and Valuation Surveys and our Insurance Surveys will be accepted by your insurance / financial institution for underwriting purposes.

Appraisal

image206

A vessel appraisal is often needed for financial issues, estate settlements, donations and legal cases.  At C3 Marine Services LLC, we conduct an on-board inspection to survey the present condition of the vessel.  Assessment of the vessels Market Value, Replacement Cost, and/or its Liquidation/Auction or Distress Sale Value will be completed through a process of comparable vessels on the market, actual recent sales of comparable vessels, multiple industry Blue-Book value guides and if applicable, industry depreciation scales will be used.  The largest single factor is always the condition of the vessel.

A C3 Marine Services Appraisal Survey is conducted to The Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) as published by the American Society of Appraisers (ASA).

Oil Analysis

image208

An engine oil analysis is a simple test to help determine the "health" of a boat’s engine.  It is a relatively inexpensive and convenient tool as opposed to having a mechanical technician disassemble the engine.  Test results can help determine if there are coolant leaks, excessive wear in metal parts and detect the presence of contaminants such as silicon, sodium and water.  The viscosity of the oil is also tested to determine if it is within acceptable parameters.  It is becoming common for recreational vessel owners to have this tested to establish a base line so that any variances can be quickly detected and remedied.  A track record of oil analysis reports is also a good sales tool when it comes time to sell your boat.

A small amount of oil is drawn from the engine after the engine has been run up to temperature to insure that the oil and any contaminants are thoroughly mixed. The sample is then sent to a lab for analysis and results are usually obtained in five business days.

Any readings outside normal parameters may call for further investigation or may be a reason to walk away from the potential boat purchase.

The best time to take an oil sample is at an oil change or any time the oil has not been freshly changed, the results can be productive.

Eyes-On-Site

image209

Buying a boat located in Wisconsin, Illinois or Minnesota, but you live far from the area?  Traveling to “check-it-out” is a long trip and taking time out of a busy work schedule is tough!

C3 Marine Services LLC can be your “eyes-on-site.” We get to the boat quickly, document the vessel with current digital photographs, generate a brief one or two page report and grade the boat per “Buc” used boat rating standards.

The C3 Marine Services LLC “Eyes-On-Site” report will help determine if the boat is worth the time and expense for you to personally see the boat.
